I didn’t have my allen key with me at the range, so I will have to wait until next time to verify that I have corrected that. I did not leave enough over travel and it was making for some undesirable trigger behavior. Firstly, was my own error in setting the trigger. Since PT has focused on producing guns, I am finding getting parts from them is a rather arduous process. That said, I am still waiting on a pinned grip safety and PT mag release. Admittedly a Cheely E2 would have been just as good, but for this one I just wanted an Evo. After 6 months of waiting, the Evo finally came in stock, and to my delight it slipped right on my Staccato frame without any additional fitment. It is worth noting that I really like the new Infinity trigger design and its textured trigger face. Initially I was going to go with the full ignition kit from Infinity but honestly the trigger on my latest XC was so good out of the box, I was content going with just the shoe. I decided for my XC that I would go with an aluminum Phoenix Trinity Evo grip and an Infinity flat trigger. Though I do still have a soft spot for Atlas’s Hyperion shark gills. Subjectively I will say that I think Staccato’s one piece comp’d island barrel is just cooler than Atlas’s dolphin nose screw on comp, and I think the XC is the better looking gun. In his hands I could clearly see the Erebus producing more muzzle flip. This theory was further supported when I watched a friend “who has very poor grip mechanics” shoot the XC and Erebus. This led me to conclude that the XC comp is more efficient than the Atlas comp (at least with factory ammo). The times were quite close with the edge going to the Erebus, but the XC felt like it was shooting slightly softer and flatter despite being a fair bit lighter, and the time I was losing seemed to be from the amount of purchase I could get on the grip. The second is when I bought an XC and took it to the range with my Erebus. Ergonomic aggressively textured metal grip module, and phenomenal trigger. The answer could be attributed to two things. This made me evaluate what it was that I was “feeling” in the gun that made is seem better. Though superior from a “finish” standpoint, the Atlas really wasn’t fit any better than a Staccato. First was the mathematical review of the Erebus. A few things happened which assisted in birthing my theory. If you want a gun to pull right off the rack and go, you can just stop there. Almost every time I brought it out I would set a new personal best time on the plate rack. Fact of the matter is that gun always shot great. The ergonomics, the trigger, the thing was magic, everything I wanted a high performance 2011 to be. I was immediately stricken with how amazing the Atlas was. It started when I replaced my STI DVC-P with an Atlas Erebus. I suspected a XC with a metal grip and a little trigger work would perform as well or better than an Atlas Erebus. This is a bit of a novel, so feel free to skip to the pictures at the end.Īs with many things in my collection, this gun started with a theory.
